This undated postcard, published by the H. C. Wick Company, features an Ektachrome photograph of the Duluth, Missabe and Iron Range docks in West Duluth, circa perhaps the late 1950s. The caption on the back of the card reads: Mesaba Ore Docks View from the hillside of the Mesaba Ore Docks and the coal docks of Duluth, Minn. In the background is Superior, Wisconsin, showing the grain elevators. Note the spelling of Mesaba in the caption. Although the word comes from the Ojibwe phrase “misaabe-wajiw” and has historically been spelled numerous ways, it is wrong in this context because the proper name of the railroad company was the Duluth, Missabe Northern Railway.
